Why Legacy Loom

What careful archiving makes possible

Calm, not urgency

Every session is structured around the pace of a family doing considered work — not a sales timeline or administrative deadline.

Clear scope

We describe, index and teach preservation. Every question about ownership, obligation or valuation is directed to the appropriate qualified professional.

Adapted to Malaysia

Storage guidance, climate advice and material selection account for humidity, heat and the conditions common in homes and offices across Peninsular Malaysia.

Standards-aligned catalogue

Institutional work follows published archival description standards so the record a client builds today remains legible to future custodians and professionals.

Written for families

Language is plain and plain-spoken. No archival jargon is used without a plain explanation sitting alongside it. Adult children inheriting boxes are as welcome as founding families beginning fresh.

A record that travels

Provenance notes are written so a document or object carries its own story. When the record changes hands, the context does not get lost.

Common Questions

Things people ask before they begin

What exactly do you mean by archiving, and what does it not include?
Archiving here means gathering, identifying, describing, indexing and preserving documents, photographs and objects so they can be found and understood by others. It does not include assessing monetary value, advising on who should inherit a particular item, interpreting the obligations in a will, or providing legal or financial counsel. Those questions are referred to appropriately qualified professionals — we name them in our referral sheet.
Who is the Starter Workshop suited to?
The workshop suits households beginning a family record for the first time, and adult children who have inherited boxes of documents, photographs or objects and have not yet had time to open them. It also suits anyone who simply wants a practical starting point — a system, some materials and a few hours of guided work in a small group.
How long does the Household Inventory Programme take each week?
Sessions run two hours weekly over six weeks. Between sessions, participants work independently on their own collections — the pace of that independent work varies by household. Some complete a small collection in an afternoon; others find it takes most of the week. The programme is designed so independent work accumulates steadily rather than requiring long unbroken stretches.
Are the prices fixed, and what do they cover?
The workshop fee of RM 480 covers tuition, archival folders, labels, an accession sheet and a photography guide for one participant. The programme fee of RM 1,930 covers all six sessions, the inventory template and all supporting materials for one household. The institutional consulting engagement at RM 4,580 covers the full scope described in the service detail; travel and out-of-pocket expenses are agreed separately in advance.
What happens to the information I share during a session?
Details shared in sessions — family names, the contents of documents, the circumstances of particular objects — remain within the working relationship. They are used only to help you build your own record and are not shared with third parties. Our full data handling approach is described in our Privacy Policy.
Can I start with the workshop and move to the programme later?
Yes. The workshop and the programme are designed so that anyone who has completed the workshop and found it useful can continue into the programme without repeating foundational material. If you are uncertain which is the right starting point, an initial conversation by telephone or in writing will help clarify that without any commitment to proceed.
